What is included in standard house cleaning?
Ask three cleaning companies and you will get three answers, which is exactly why it is worth having the list written down before you book anything.

The principle behind the list
A standard visit is surface and hygiene work across the whole house. It cleans what is in use: counters, sinks, toilets, shower walls, mirrors, visible floors and the touch points people put their hands on.
It does not reclaim. Pulling an oven apart, hand-wiping every baseboard, lifting built-up mineral scale off shower glass — those belong to deep cleaning, and they need hours a standard visit is not scheduled for.
The distinction matters because a company that agrees to everything on a standard visit is a company that will run out of time in your last two rooms.

What is normally excluded
None of these are refusals. They are items that need their own time, so they are scheduled rather than absorbed.
- Inside the oven — baked-on residue needs product and dwell time, often an hour on its own
- Inside the refrigerator — shelves, drawers and door seals, with everything removed and replaced
- Interior windows — glass, frames, sills and tracks throughout a house
- Laundry — some companies include a load, most do not
- Wall washing — different from spot-cleaning marks
- Carpet steam cleaning — a separate trade with separate equipment
- Anything requiring a ladder beyond a step stool — a safety boundary rather than a scope one
- Moving heavy furniture — reachable pieces yes, armoires and appliances no
How the work is sequenced, and why it matters
Cleaners work from the highest surface in a room to the lowest, so dust that gets disturbed lands on something not yet cleaned. Dry work comes before wet. Floors are last, and the crew reverses out toward the door instead of tracking over a surface it has just finished.
Cloths are separated by area — the cloth used in a bathroom does not travel to a kitchen counter. That sounds obvious and it is the single most common thing done badly.
Edges are the other tell. The perimeter of a floor, the corner of a shower pan and the back rim of a toilet are slow and nobody looks at them during a walk-through, which is exactly why they are worth checking.

- Will you change my bed linens?
- Yes, if you leave fresh linens on the bed. We strip and remake as part of the visit.
- Do you clean inside kitchen cabinets?
- Not on a standard visit — cabinet fronts are cleaned and interiors are not. Cabinet interiors are included in move-in and move-out cleaning, where the property is empty.
- Can I add items to a standard visit?
- Yes. Tell us at booking and the time gets scheduled rather than squeezed in at the end. Inside the oven, inside the refrigerator and interior windows are the three most common.
- Do you bring supplies?
- Yes. If you want a specific product used on a specific surface — a sealed-stone cleaner, for instance — leave it out and tell us.
- What if my home needs more than a standard visit?
- We will say so before the day rather than run out of time on site. The rough test is whether the home has been professionally cleaned in the last two months.
