Why a stacked layout cleans differently
Two homes of identical square footage take different amounts of time if one is spread across one floor and the other is stacked across three.
Stairs are the obvious part. A flight of stairs takes far longer than the equivalent floor area because each tread has three surfaces — the tread, the riser and the nose — plus a baseboard on one side and spindles or a stringer on the other. Two flights in a three-story unit is a meaningful chunk of a visit on its own.
The less obvious part is that stacked homes move dust vertically. Air rises through a stairwell, carrying fine dust with it, and it settles on the highest landing, the upper hallway and the top-floor baseboards. In a three-story townhome, the top floor is almost always the dustiest, even when it is the least used.
Then there is logistics. Supplies have to move with the cleaner rather than sit in one place, and a vacuum has to go up and down. That is a normal part of the job, but it is why we plan townhome visits floor by floor rather than room type by room type.

We work top down through the building, which matches how dust actually falls and means the ground-floor entry is finished last.

Different eras, different demands
Newer townhome developments around Alliance, Walsh and the Chisholm Trail Parkway corridor tend to have luxury vinyl plank throughout, open main floors and tall entry walls. Those clean quickly but show dust on the plank floors within days, and the tall entry wall collects cobwebs nobody can reach.
Infill townhomes near West 7th, the Near Southside and the Cultural District often have more glass, more tile and steeper stairs. They also usually have less storage, so more sits out on the surfaces.
Older attached units in the Mid-Cities and around Wedgwood tend to have carpet on the stairs and more grout in the bathrooms. Both are entirely workable — they just take longer to do properly than a plank-and-quartz new build.

About townhome cleaning
- Is a townhouse different from a townhome?
- No. The two words describe the same thing — a multi-level attached home with its own entrance. Regional habit decides which one gets used. We clean both, and the checklist is identical.
- Do stairs cost extra?
- Stairs are part of the standard scope, not an add-on. They do affect how long a visit takes, which is factored into the quote, but they are not billed separately.
- Why is the top floor always dustier?
- Warm air rises through the stairwell and carries fine dust with it, depositing it on the upper landing and top-floor surfaces. It happens in nearly every stacked home regardless of how the space is used.
- Can you clean the garage?
- Garage sweeping can be added to a visit. Tell us when you book so the time gets scheduled rather than squeezed in at the end.
- Do you clean shared entry areas in townhome communities?
- Not as part of a residential booking. Shared corridors, mail areas and amenity spaces belong to the HOA or management and are quoted as commercial cleaning.
